Yoga benefits horse riding since it is the foundation of movements.  Maintaining control of the body when riding is paramount. Yoga helps create body awareness for shifting your body position while on a moving horse. This is because yoga in the classic way is simply the foundation of movements. Through equestrian yoga we overcome agility and strength limitations while creating body awareness. When not horse riding it is ideal to practice yoga for creating suppleness and strength for the necessary awareness required while riding. Yoga on off days from riding will enable better riding.

Incorporate Yoga to produce a strong core for equestrian time. The practice of yoga is focused primarily on the spine enabling good posture for riding. Since the core muscles are continuously engaged during horse riding it is required for balancing on the horse. A weak core always leads to injuries and so use yoga to reduce injuries from riding. Doing yoga with horses relieves hip pain and lower back strains from lack of flexibility. Engaging your body for yoga stretching especially after horse riding will relieve tensions associated with horse riding.

Intense focus is required for horse riding. A mind cluttered with thoughts and fears will hinder the techniques of riding. Practicing Yoga with Perumal method before horse riding will clear the mind and prepare the body for the ride. The horse is known to sense your emotions and fears. Becoming calm and balanced for a greater feel and awareness of the surroundings enables you to resonate with the horse to maintain control.

There are multiple styles of yoga that approach the body in different ways. The approach to practicing Yoga with Perumal method for horse riding will vary from the typical yoga classes in weekly groups. It is important to incorporate Yoga with Perumal core activation along with joint preparation before horse riding for an enhanced ride. Ideally practices involving stretching is best done immediately after horse riding or that night before sleeping. On days we are not horse riding the typical yoga class will suffice.
