MY AYURVEDA TREATMENT

Ayurveda and Yoga is an original concept. Main thing about Ayurveda that most westerners do not know is that traditionally you may not choose the treatment. The length of treatment time is decided by the Dr. Following time of treatment there is an equal rest time.

I experienced a traditional Ayurveda treatment in Kerala, India from a doctor who had his father treating my grandparents. My 9 days treatment was simple. Following was 9 days’ of rest. The doctor did not allow me to go outside during the whole treatment and rest period for more than 10 minutes and for once a day. This was not be done in the sun and or rain. I was also not permitted to exercise. So there was nothing to do for 18 days. The most exciting thing was a spider on the wall.

The results of the treatment was that my joints turned to jelly. This was scary! I understood why I was not allowed to exercise because it would have hurt me. Following 18 days of treatment and rest I went to a resort for 7 days. All I did for 7 days was sit and stare at the ocean. I did not have to move from 9am - 9pm. I was euphoric all day! Whatever those herbs were from the first 9 days they did something to my sense of euphoria I will never forget! One of the best 7 days of my life. I did nothing and was in complete euphoria. On every one of those days I did not move for 12 hours per day. I just sat on a chair and stared at the ocean while ordering from the waiter and getting up to use the bathroom. I can only imagine some yogis with an Ayurveda and sitting for days. After the Ayurveda treatment, at age 29, I looked younger. People considering me to be 23. Six weeks later a 17 year old boy thought I was 18.

Before and during the treatment I was sceptical. Three days into the treatment which did not incorporate deep tissue I informed the doctor, “I require deep tissue penetration.” The doctor responded with, “The herbs will work exponentially and this is just the beginning.” Only out of a mechanical respect I decided to “amuse them” by continuing. I made a fool of myself and disrespected the doctor’s lineage. Thankfully the doctor remained patient.

After 9 days of treatment the 9 days rest period was with my family. My ignorance continued since I was told not to work or exercise. Despite that I looked at my uncle upon arrival at his house and said, “I need to use the internet it has been 9 days without internet.” My uncle with a south Indian accent said, “Doctor does not recommend.” He rode me on his motorcycle to the only computer in a jungle village. I sat in front of the computer for no more than 5 minutes before becoming dizzy and weak. Immediately my fingers dialled the mobile and sounding like an old man I requested a pick up. Upon arrival he said, “I told you!” Sitting on the back of the motorcycle I was hugging him like a drunkard trying not to fall. I recall a glimpse of the bed before passing out onto it. Thankfully I took the matter more seriously from this point onward and avoided any exercise.
