City Centre Retreat was built back in 1925 by D. Bailey Brandt and is identified in Building Harrisburg, The Architects and Builders 1719-1941 by Ken Frew. The architecture is inspired by the Spanish prototypes architecturally explored in this era. Over many years, the home underwent many transformations, from being separated into 2 homes in the 1940s and serving as the group home in the '80s through the '90s.
Its current owners Chris and Erica, are the third in a line of owners who chose to restore it to an original one-family dwelling, saying "The original structure of the house was built mainly for entertaining. Returning it to the single-family home recreated that ease of movement and wonderful flow."

Renovations were all implemented in spring 2010, creating the City Center Retreat seen today. The remodeling focused on more comfortable living space and modern amenities without letting go of the original historic charm. Security was then updated with emergency exit lighting and fire alarms, gated parking, and a keyless entry. Yes, they have gutted and modernized the bathrooms but also have maintained the 1920's charm. .
In Room Safety
Our state is coping with COVID-19. If you are planning a rapid escape ( after perhaps the strangest year still on record), we don't blame you. Why not make this beautiful and safe location the break you need from work? As you see then see on arrival, we are also taking lots of different measures to keep all of the guests safe.
Along with this, you may truly relax and also forget all that has happened this year. We are also acting along with the Pennsylvania yoga City Center Retreat guidelines and introducing our measures. .
We will deep clean your room before you arrive here. We will sanitize all surfaces, clean all linens, and ensure that the whole room is spot-free. When you stay there, no one will enter your room for any reason. Instead, we will also place a basket of all of your essentials outside the door every morning. And still, if you need anything else, don't hesitate to talk to us.
BREAKFAST & TREATS
A hearty continental breakfast features homemade muffins, fresh fruits, yogurt, and other very tasty options. The continental breakfast items are all served in every room through a mini-fridge. This is to reduce the contact between people as the observance of guidelines for all social distancing is needed. We support the special dietary needs with prior notice.
Also, feel free to dine with breakfast throughout the whole house. You can also eat at the dining table if you wish to, bistro tables, or outside for the full view of the Susquehanna River it is possible.
The facilities that enable you to feel at home are enough to help you enjoy the best food. There is round clock access to our special coffee station with hot brews and also some sweet indulgences. The guest pass is also included for 2 days for the YMCA giving full access to facilities and overlooking the Susquehanna riverfront, including cardio machines and weighs.
This pass also gives the guests access to the Y's full studio class schedule along with the indoor swimming pool, Jacuzzi, and sauna. This is only 1 block from our retreat.
