LEG SEQUENCE

The Preparation Leg Series and Standing Foundational Leg Series were featured on the March and April 2017 issue of Yoga Journal Italy.
On our yoga retreat, the Foundation Leg Sequence is typically an evening practice following a morning core lesson. This classic leg sequence is the first step into standing postures. This lesson strengthens muscles of your quads and glutes while opening the lower back for meditation at the end of the lesson.

Standing and seated preparation sets are the prerequisite to this sequence. Yoga with Perumal lower body preparation precedes standing Foundational Leg Sequences to open your hips. When the hips are warm and open this enables reduced knee injuries. This sequence is beneficial for stabilizing knees for standing twisting postures practiced in upcoming retreat lessons.

This sequence opens the hips and lowers back via the iliopsoas muscle group. When time is limited we may stop at the end of the sequence to feel an open lower back and hips. This free lower back and hips will be experienced without executing direct stretches after the Foundation Leg Series.

Heat metal and it will bend easier. Heat the body with strength postures and it will bend easier too. Standing Foundation leg sequence prepares the body for seated floor stretches. After concluding strength postures muscle fibers are circulated with blood. This warms up the joints even more than after the preparations. Following up a Standing Foundation sequence with seated stretching while the muscles are warmed with increased circulation enables deeper stretches. Once muscles are free of tension mediation is made easier which concludes a lesson.

A Core Series on one day followed by Standing Foundation on a second and Arm Series on a third may be practiced as a daily practice approach. Standing Foundation sequence is the first least impactful and most progressive way for entering warrior 1. Those with sensitive knees may consider icing the affected area after the lesson. Ice therapy increases circulation into the tendons and decreases inflammation. Always consult with your doctor also.
