Morocco @ Jnane Tamsna
September 2010 - February 2011

Description

True well-being is found in a life of authenticity and tranquility. Due to a slow and organic cultivation, infused with the memories of past guests, Jnane feels as if it has always been there. Jnane is conceived from the soul of the local culture and raised with a sophisticated touch. When creating Jnane the natural materials, traditions, local communities and the environment were respected. This sanctuary is a harmonious blend of Arabic, Asiatic and African tastes. One will sense the style honed from these multitude of influences converging in Morocco.

Nestled amidst a fragrant grove of fruit trees it is hypnotic to the senses with the aromas of Gardenia, Jasmine and Bougainville. Jnane gardens, created by Gary Martin, are lush edible landscapes that draw inspiration from Arab-Andalous horticultural traditions. Completely organic and water-efficient, they provide an array of fresh produce for the palates of Jnane's guests as well as a peaceful environment for relaxation, reflection and meditation.

Our cuisines use fresh, organic ingredients sourced when possible from our own organic gardens. Every delectable delight is aromatic, visually appetizing and mouthwatering. Our Moroccan cuisines are a succulent twist of spice that is North African with the lightness of contemporary Mediterranean cookery.

Accommodations

Jnane hotels and villas offer a lifestyle of serenity and well-being in the Palmeraie and countryside around Marrakech. The Jnane setting is a collection of individual houses spread out in a garden. This gives guests an atmosphere of being at home while providing the comfort and services of a hotel. Jnane interiors, overseen by the creative eye of Meryanne Loum-Martin, is a creation spanning two decades of Oriental, African and European tastes. Often referred to as 'New Moroccan Style', this involves the use of natural materials, traditional techniques and dark and light textures to create a sense of harmony.

Services

The wide range of facilities and services as well as wonderfully landscaped gardens, and private chill-out corners make this ideal for indulgence and yoga. Here one is treated to the rare fruits of the desert.

Yoga

The daily yoga classes, tailored to the level of the group, are scheduled before breakfast and dinner. The lessons are thorough with theoretical arguments and easy to comprehend guidelines for spirituality and healthy living thus opening a portal to the hidden aspects of yoga. Perumal explains the linkages and interactions between the mental, physical, philosophical and spiritual aspects of yoga with highlights from his own experience which will make yoga tangible for leading to genuine mental and physical wellbeing. The lessons, thanks to a progressive approach, will allow the guest to achieve the right state of flow in order to improve mobility, breathing and circulation while strengthening muscles, tendons and ligaments.

Hammam

The Hammam, a variant of a steam bath, is considered a wet relative of the sauna. They have played an important role in cultures of the Middle-East, serving as places of social gathering and ritual cleansing. Our serene Hammam will prepare your senses to receive a holistic treatment for beauty, relaxation or therapy. All treatments are under a beautifully hand crafted ceiling with a décor reflecting an African design carefully blended with Arabian influences. Hammam is reserved through our facilities in the neighboring Douar Abiad.

Cooking Classes

We offer individual cooking classes with our house chef Bahija. You may learn how to make a number of classic Moroccan savory dishes. Instructions in classical dishes of Moroccan cuisine range from B'stilla made from Fish and Preserved Lemon to Lamb Tagine with Tomatoes and Caramelized Spring Onions, Roasted Pepper, Cucumber and Tomato Salad. Of course let us not forget desserts such as Spiced Pears with Oranges and Caramel Sauce. You will chop, roast and grind your way through a cooking experience under Bahija an authentic Moroccan cook.

At the airport you can rent a car with various companies. We will provide you with directions. Alternatively our Jnane Tamsna chauffeur may collect you from anywhere - prices start at €25 for a collection from airport by car, €30 for a 6 seater at day time and €45 at night time. This can be easily arranged. Please let us know a day in advance.

Miscellaneous

Passports and Visas:
In order to enter Morocco, you must own a valid passport with at least six months remaining. All British citizens, no matter how young, must have their own passport. A Visa is a stamp in your passport, or a separate piece of paper, officially stamped, indicating how long you are permitted to stay in the country for a permitted length of time. Most visitors to Morocco do not need them and are allowed to remain for up to 90 days on entry. The exceptions are nationals of Israel, South Africa and Zimbabwe.

Immunization:
Morocco is a relatively safe country and vaccinations are not legally required for entry and most visitors, especially those intending to make a short, stay do not need to obtain specific immunization.

Climate:
Along the Mediterranean, Morocco has a subtropical climate, tempered by oceanic influences that give the coastal cities moderate temperatures. Toward the interior, winters are colder and summers warmer. At high altitudes temperatures of less than -17.8* C (0* F) are not uncommon and mountain peaks are covered with snow during most of the year. Marrakech is beautiful all year round but temperatures in the summer months, and particularly August, can be very high. If you are visiting Morocco in the winter, do carry warm clothes as although the climate in Marrakesh is normally very mild it can also get very cold and Moroccan architecture is better suited to protect from the heat than the cold.
